For our SSDB project this year, we decided to set up a hydroponics garden to grow our own produce and get the children involved in the whole process. For the purpose of this project, we will be focusing on the Kindergarten 1 children.
Before we embark on creating the hydroponics garden, we discussed with the children on the elements that a plant needs to thrive, the various types of plants that we can grow and the different types of garden and methods that we can adopt to grow our own produce. This discussion was held in class, using Powerpoint slides.
It was a very fruitful and engaging discussion as they shared their own background knowledge and experience of observing their own family members caring for plants at home.
In their next activity, we will be bringing the children to our mosque garden to observe the plants and the method of planting there.
