A day before Singapore’s 52nd birthday, children, parents, teachers and centre support staff of Blk 21 had a fun-filled day with the elderly at St Luke’s Elder Care. We made our way by walking to Blk 33 Telok Blangah Way from our centre at Blk 21 Telok Blangah Crescent.
A warm welcome was given to us by the manager, staff and elderly of St Luke’s Elder Care.
We started the programme with the singing of the Singapore National Anthem followed by recitation of the National Pledge.
An art activity followed utilising the “Stained Glass Art” technique. We prepared glue, glitters, rolled and crepe paper cut-outs for children and elderly to paste together on transparency sheets with Vanda Joaquim, Singapore Flag and The Merlion outlines on them.
Nursery children worked with the elderly on the National Flower of Singapore which is the Vanda Joaquim.
K1 children worked with the elderly on the Singapore National Flag.
K2 children worked with the elderly on The Merlion.
The highlight of the programme transformed the “Elder Care Centre” into a lively stage as the children presented national day songs and dances from the past to the present.
Nursery 2 and K1 children sang and danced to the national day workout “Because It’s Singapore”.
The elderly joined the K1 children in singing to their rendition of “Chan Mali Chan” and “Burung Kakak Tua”. The songs brought back memories of their younger days and prompted them to sing along with the children.
K2 and Nursery 2 children described the beautiful nation of Singapore in the song “Sunny Island”, the “Unity in Being Together” in the song “One People, One Nation, One Singapore”, and “Conquering Aspirations of the Future by the Labours of Today” in the song “Tomorrow’s Here Today”.
As a token of our appreciation for the opportunity to spend national day with our elderly at St Luke’s, we presented to them the finished stained glass artworks. The elderly were so happy to be given the artworks and promised to display them so they will always remember our visit.
Elise from K2 presented the “Stained Glass Art of Merlion”.
Naomi from K1 presented the “Stained Glass Art of Singapore Flag”.
Angel from Nursery 2 presented the “Stained Glass Art of Vanda Joaquim”.
As we bid farewell to the elderly and staff of St. Luke’s on that day, we at the same time, look forward to another day of celebration with them.
Happy 52nd Birthday Singapore!!! - from St Luke’s Elder Care @Telok Blangah and PCF Sparkletots Preschool @Radin Mas Blk 21 Telok Blangah Crescent.
