Our theme for this year’s SSDB is caring for the community. PCS Tampines has embarked on a community service project called “Project Good Sam”. This project is inspired by the story of “The Good Samaritan”.
We aim on inculcating positive values to children by loving one another especially those who are in need. Dorcas Home Care Services was chosen to be part of this endeavor. The children were introduced to its mission and were inspired to take part in giving help to the frail and homebound elderly.
To develop the children’s awareness of loving one’s neighbour, the story “The Good Samaritan” was introduced to them. To make the learning more meaningful, the children themselves were invited to dramatize the story.
A fundraising campaign was started to aid in sponsoring meals for the elderly through “Meals-on-Wheels”. The children were invited to create crafts made of recyclables donated by their families. These handmade crafts will be sold through an Online Craft Fair that will be organised by the centre.
