PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ Bedok Blk 30 (KN) came up with ‘Happy Little Garden’. The centre’s garden was officiated by our District Head, Mdm Elsie Lim on 12 May 2017. It aims to nurture children as little gardeners and instill in them care and respect towards nature and their environment.
Children from N2 to K2 classes, play a role in gardening, upkeeping and learning about the plants that grow there. They get to work together with their peers to water, sweep and pick up dried leaves.
During their visit to the garden, the K1 children were in awe upon seeing how tall our two okra plants have grown. It is even more special as they bear burgundy okra, instead of the usual green ones.
Back in the classroom, children use their sense of sight, smell and touch to see how the burgundy okra is like inside. They also tried out printing and discovered unusual shapes and patterns in nature.
The K2 children planted Thai basil and long bean seeds with the help of their class teacher. It was a great opportunity for them to have hands-on experience in planting and watching them grow to adult plant. To-date, tendrils from the long bean plants are creeping on the netting. The Thai basil are growing in abundance. We cannot wait to show you our harvest next time!
