Our Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) project this year focuses on focuses on ‘Promoting Kindness in the Neighbourhood’ . We kicked start our project by watching The Kindness Puppet Show presented by Singapore Kindness Movement on 15th May 2019. The children learns how to show graciousness to people in public areas by offering help when they needed it.
Back in class, we read a book, ‘Maddie Makes Friends’ by Ho Lee Ling which focuses on how important it is to forge good relationship with their neighbours. We discussed and brainstormed ways they can be good to their neighbours such as pressing the lift button, smiling and greeting their neighbours.
We finally came up with a plan to distribute kindness tissue packs to our neighbours.
On 23rd May 2019, the children wrote messages such as, “Don’t forget to smile to your neighbours!“ and “Press the lift button for your neighbours.”
They decorated their tissue packs with the SSDB stickers and packed it neatly in the paper bag.
One of them even gave their kindness tissue pack to their neighbourhood barber!
The children shared that they felt happy and accomplished when they gave out the tissue packs.
“I feel happy because whenever they want to use tissue, they will read my message and be reminded to be kind to people around them. ” - Zaki
Throughout the SSDB period, we are glad that the children learns a valuable lesson that, “Kindness is a gift everyone can afford to give”.
