Nobody can do everything but everyone can do something.#SSDB2017
Early this year, in collaboration with PUB, our centre adopted Sungei Whampoa - a lovely canal laced with viewing decks and rain gardens with specially selected plants that facilitate the cleansing of rain water before it enters the river.
It became our centre’s mission to inculcate a sense of ownership and responsibility over Sungei Whampoa in our children. SSDB gave us the perfect platform to kick start our vision. During our weekly assembly, we brought the children for a walk by the river. There, we introduced them to the various animals that live in and by the river such as fishes, frogs and we were lucky enough to spot a King Fisher! The children were most intrigued by the rain gardens and the function it serves.
Upon returning back to the centre, we revealed that WE adopted the beautiful canal and that WE are all responsible for it. We shared the SSDB slogan with them and encouraged them saying that they were never too young or too small to spark a change.
Over the weeks, the teachers encouraged the children to think of ideas and ways they can do their part in keeping Sungei Whampoa clean and green - which lead to the the birth of our SSDB project! We are most pleased to announce that our children were very much a part of our SSDB project initiative and planning process!
Nobody can do everything but everyone can do something.
With utmost sincerity, we hope our children cling on to this simple yet impactful quote.
Lots of love,
The Teachers @ Whampoa 85
