As per this year’s theme of “Many Helping Hands, Caring For Everyone”, we wanted the children and their families to be heavily involved in the project. We racked our brains to think of how we can get the whole school heavily involved in the project. Thus, we thought about doing a gardening project / donation drive.
The Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2 children were asked what it means to help and who the recipients can be. Together, we brainstormed, asked and answered many responses, which were compiled and put into a mind map. Having the elderly and the earth in mind, we decided to do a gardening cum donation drive for our SSDB project.

We started the first phase of the project which was to attempt to plant our own vegetables and be as sustainable as we could. Each child was asked to bring a recyclable container which would be used as the plant pot. Seeds of various vegetables and soil were provided and the children worked hard to grow them.
They were tasked to water the plants daily and monitor its growth. Children were very diligent and observed their plants to record changes in its growth. They made sure to give it enough water and exposure to sunlight to ensure its growth. Here are some photos of the children in the processes mentioned.
In the next few months, we will be going through the same cycle. Once the plants have grown, the children will be having the vegetables for lunch. Stay tuned for the next part!
