Our SSDB Journey in 2024

Continuing our Start Small Dream Big journey in 2024, Shaws @ KPO kicked off by celebrating Red Cross Day! The Red Cross Junior visited us as they taught us how to bandage an injured arm. We took this opportunity to assemble a simple first-aid kid. Empowering the children with basic first aid knowledge allows them to render aid to a friend in need.

Next, we were part of Shaws Charity Carnival where we had some parent volunteers who set up booths. The children were invited to join us for the fun-filled morning as we raised money for the President’s Challenge Charity, to do our best to give back to the community that we live in.

As we moved on to a new term, our N2 and K1 friends embarked on a journey to FairPrice Marine Parade with a mission to build a care pack for our community helpers. We purchased essentials and added special “Thank You” cards into each pack, to show our gratitude and appreciation. We walked around the neighbourhood and distributed our special care packs to the community helpers.

Meanwhile, our PN and N1 friends went on an excursion to Pasir Ris Park where we learnt more about the places and people in our Community. Tying in with Racial Harmony Day, we put up a mini performance in various languages for our families, to embrace diversity. We also brought healthy snacks to share, in the spirit of togetherness and kindness. Diving in further, we worked on a collaborative art project by looking for teammates to share materials with and to go on a nature hunt around the park.

Finally, to celebrate the end of the Start Small Dream Big campaign and Singapore’s 59th Birthday, Shaws @ KPO headed to Marina Barrage. We sang our National Anthem, recited the pledge in both English and Mandarin, and danced along to National Day songs against the iconic backdrop of our city’s skyline. We challenged ourselves at theme-based stations - What’s The Action Mr Nila?, Bullseye Chapteh, Ring The Landmark, and, Hoop Wheeling Race. We enjoyed merlion biscuits, our local favourite milo and traditional ice cream sandwiches as a nostalgic treat perfect to cool ourselves down with on this balmy afternoon.

We had so much fun this year, learning about and showing appreciation towards our community that we can’t wait to embark on our SSDB journey next year!
