START SMALL DREAM BIG 2020, has been a phenomenal experience for all the children, parents and teachers. We are glad to share our success stories in this journey. This project has impacted both the children and their families in believing that small contributions are important. Gardening and Recycling were the interest of the children that was facilitated and supported by their parents and teachers. It’s gratifying to know that children fell in love with plants, the process and opened their hearts to give people around them. In the beginning of the project when children visited the Community Garden, they were very touched by the gesture of the uncles and aunties as they were growing vegetables, fruits and herbs for the residents for free. Children pondered, who will give them vegetables, fruits or herbs. This led to their decision of giving their fresh chilis to the uncles and aunties. Children chose to grow chilis because during a conversation with the community helpers, they learnt that the aunties and uncles enjoyed Tom Yam Soup. Children started small and grew to have bigger hearts. Children took care of the plants daily by closely following their responsibilities chart. They planted seeds, watered, took the plant out for sunlight and greeted the plants with a Good Morning. When chilis starting growing out of their plants, children were elated and quickly cut the chilis out for the community gardeners. They used newspapers to fold and placed the chilis inside as a bouquet. They wrote thank you letters and delivered the bouquets to the uncle. The children were very proud and triumphantly happy to give the uncles and aunties the fruits of their hardwork. The praises from the uncles and aunties brought lots of gaiety and fulfilment to the children. Children have acquired lots of knowledge, skills and values. All the children, parents and teachers are grateful and proud to be part of this journey.
