The children embarked on a holistic learning journey on our rich cultural history in Singapore.
They explored Aesthetic and Creative Expression (ACE) through Batik Painting, Rangoli art, Chinese Rooster Bowl, Chinese Calligraphy and Eurasian Tile Painting.
They participated in games that incorporated Motor Skills and Numeracy. Different ethnic traditional games such as Chapteh, Hopscotch (跳房子), Congkak and Five Stones were introduced.
The children also made discoveries through hands-on experiences (DOW) such as making of their own Mac-and-Cheese under the Eurasian cookery lesson, pounding and crushing their way through mortar and pestle (a Malay tradition cooking utensil, also known as “Batu Lesong”). The children also talked and shared about their thoughts and feelings, displaying language skills.
The children worked on character building as they learnt about the different ways that different ethnic groups will greet one another, learning and respecting each culture’s differences.
