It was a day of fun and laughter for both the children and teachers on August 29 … our classrooms were ”converted” into a make-shift hawker centre for the children to role-play with their parents as hawkers serving an array of “shiok, shiok” hawker food for our teachers’ tasting pleasure.
To add the element of financial literacy in this fun-filled event, the teachers were gifted with a stack of “paper money” to “patronize” the different stalls manned by the children under the guidance of some parents. At the end of the day, the children were seen excitingly totalling their sales proceeds and comparing with one another how much they had earned from their respective stalls.
Food party aside, our teachers and children also had lots of fun playing hawker food theme related games such as carrying a giant fishball relay, tossing the roti prata parachute play and the satay relay.
With this closing event as our Teacher’s Day celebration, our 2024 SSDB project has now officially come to an end. It is hoped that these three months of learning have taught our children to have a greater appreciation and recognition for our Singapore’s hawker culture!
