Our DIY Dish Garden

On 30 July 2018, the N2 to K2 children were engaged in making their dish garden. Prior to the activity, children were taught on ways to care for the plants and were introduced to the materials that were used for this activity. For example, children were taught that they can only spray the plants thrice as too much water may cause the plants to die.

The objective of this activity is to increase children’s awareness on the proper ways to care for plants in the environment. The children will also be selling their personalised dish gardents to raise funds for TOUCH Community Services.

Children first observed how a dish garden is created by their teachers prior to this activity. Then, they started embarking on their own dish garden project with only some assistance from their teachers.

First, they picked their favourite plant for their dish garden. Then, children covered the plant with some potting soil. Next, they proceed to decorate their dish garden with various colourful sand. Lastly, children used miniature decorative ornaments to decorate their dish garden.

What made this project more interesting would be how they incorporate these miniature plants to our June Holiday Project - A city in a garden! Children used these plants to incorporate it together with the Singapore landscape that they had created.

Keep up the excellent effort children!
