For the “Start Small Dream Big” project, the children of ELFA Preschool at Serangoon planned their annual and momentous event, “Family Carnival” to raise funds for the Arc Children’s centre on 14 June 2018, Thursday.
Children’s entrepreneuril skills were put to the test as they were given the opportunity to work together. Before the event, children from Toddlers to Kindergarten 2 baked different goodies they would sell during the bake sale on the day of the event. Different stalls were set-up during the carnival in which the children played different roles such as promoters and cashiers, keeping in mind the objective of the event.
The little entrepreneurs marketed the products to parents and their peers who attended the event, with the proceeds deposited into a donation box. Parents also showed their supports by adopting a booth (healthy food and beverages), to make the event more meaningful for everyone.
This act of kindness gave the children an opportunity to put their knowledge and skills to use. They learnt teamwork, discovered the value of money, and also learnt that time and perseverance must be placed to ensure the success of anything. The children’s idea of kindness was strengthened as the objective of the fundraising event was to help the children coping with terminal illnesses. The whole centre, children and parents showed their support for the event.
