Nursing Home Virtual Meet

On 10th September 2021, our centre had the pleasure of meeting with the seniors at NTUC Health (Jurong West) - Nursing Home via Zoom. The objective was to instill the spirit of giving in the children towards the community. Despite the current pandemic, we decided to support the residents in the nursing home by having a virtual interaction session. After much brainstorming between the teachers, children and the Programme and Community Partnership team at NTUC Health (Jurong West) - Nursing Home, we decided on a series of activities such as memory games, lantern-making art activity and a dance performance for the virtual session.

We started off the event with the children introducing themselves in Mandarin since most of the elderly were Mandarin speaking. Then, we played a memory game where they had to match two identical pictures. The pictures, featuring traditional games and local food, were specially selected to facilitate interaction between the elderly and children. The elderly were very excited to share about their favourite food e.g. chicken rice with the children.

In celebration of the Mid-Autumn festival, the children pre-prepared the lantern making craft sets for the seniors, and the materials were sent to NTUC Health (Jurong West) - Nursing Home before the virtual session. The elderly and children then decorated their own lanterns together over Zoom. Upon completion of the lantern, the seniors and children took turns to share about their masterpieces. To end the event, the children performed the classic, “Shi Shang Zhi You Ma Ma Hao”. Thank you so much NTUC Health (Jurong West) - Nursing Home for partnering with us in the virtual intergenerational collaboration!
