💖 In the month of kindness, we sparked the topic of kindness by having a discussion after reading the book ‘Have you filled a bucket today’ by Carol McCloud. Children were asked about how they can be a ‘bucket filler’ and who we can be kind to.
💖 The children were determined to become ‘bucket fillers’. In line with our ‘save the water’ challenge in March and the recent price spike of water bills, we decided to go around the neighbourhood to share some water-saving tips with our neighbours.
💖 We then had a brainstorming session together with the children whereby we wanted to give our neighbours an item that is practical or for keepsake. We ventured around ideas of making keychains, and finally decided to create wind chimes with simple materials (paper cup, string, bell and a piece of a child’s drawing). Look at our masterpieces! 😊
💖 The children proceeded to prepare each wind chime specially by painting on the cups, drawing goofy happy faces and also filling papers up with colours full of their excitement. It was their first piece of work to be given away instead of bringing it home, and the children were seen to be doing it extra carefully. 😁
💖 Despite the scorching hot weather, the children were seen with smiles on their faces and were filled with enthusiasm and joy as we approached our neighbours. They shared on the water-saving tips and invited the neighbours to join us by pledging that they would join in the water-saving challenge. “Let’s be a water saviour, let’s save water today!’ The children sang the PUB’s water-saving jingle both in English and Mandarin and proudly presented each household the specially handmade wind chime that comes with a kindness quote.
💖 Although we did not manage to reach out to some neighbours, the children were understanding that most people would be out of the house at that timing due to work/ school. Hence, we decided to leave the wind chimes at their door instead. 😘
💖 Mission completed! Time to head back to school for a well-deserved lunch! 😀 Indeed, ‘kindness starts with me’ and our little ones are truly water saviours!
