Our K1 and K2 children, parents and teachers from My First Skool @ Blk 229 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 collaborated to promote awareness on “Recycling and Zero Waste”. We came up with a video showing our own little ways to care for the environment. Despite the unforeseen circumstance that we are in right now, we continued to exhibit our SSDB spirit.
In 2015, “Zero Waste Singapore” regarded recycling as a helpful way to reduce waste, to save energy and to conserve natural resources. They also said that Zero Waste ensures products and materials are designed to use less resources and made to promote 3Rs or to be used for composting.
We believe that to live a zero waste lifestyle and to practice recycling will benefit our future generation. Hence, with this project we encouraged the children to reflect on how they can care for the environment even with their little contributions from home and school. The planned activities provided opportunities for the children and parents to appreciate the importance of recycling and reinforced their creativity through upcycling. They also demonstrated respect, empathy, good decision-making and responsibility towards the environment and the things they have at home.
Overall, the SSDB 2020 Virtual Launch was a success as the children participated in the activities and showcased their tinkering skills as they exhibited their recycling skills and promoted zero waste. We will continue to practice our advocacy to recycle and live a zero waste lifestyle at home and in the centre to promote awareness in caring for the environment and for our future generation.
Here is our “SSDB 2020: Recycle and Zero Waste” video that was filmed during the Circuit Breaker period with the help of the supportive parents to inspire all of you to continue doing what is good for our environment. Enjoy!
