Continuing with Little Atlas’ Parent Volunteer Sharing Week, our third set of parent volunteers are a family of talented musicians from N2A, Mighty Newton.
Daddy Wang Wei is a bass trombonist who plays for the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and mummy Dong Ying is a piano instructor. Together with our in-house musician, Emily, the three of them planned and executed a sharing session to equip our children with basic knowledge of the piano and bass trombone.
Music can help facilitate the closeness between parents and children. And sometimes, music has a way of bringing people together that spoken words cannot. Immersed in an environment filled with beautiful melodies, it has influenced Emily to aspire to pursue a living in music, and she even requested to learn the piano. This is how Emily and her daddy mummy communicate, through music.
Music also brings comfort to people who find something in it that they can connect with. The emotions and connection shone through an emotional ballad that Emily’s mummy played for daddy to reminisce about his hometown, China, which he has not visited since before Covid.
Daddy went the extra mile to introduce this connection and love for music to our little innovators. To make the sharing even more interesting, daddy even prepared household items that can be transformed into an instrument that works and sounds exactly like his trombone. The children were fascinated and amazed when they heard actual melodies coming out of the rubber hose and funnel.
Nothing is complete without a dance workout for our little ones. To end it off, the children had the opportunityto be a part of the performance as they followed the music and rang the handbells accordingly to daddy’s cue.
It was a truly eye opening and informative session for the children. The children put on their best behaviour and lent their full attention to the parents. Emily worked seamlessly with her parents to carry out a wonderful performance for her friends as well. Mighty Newton was so proud of Emily and gave her a big hug after the sharing session. They can’t wait to see Emily play the piano and perform for them again.
Once again, we would like to send a little heartfelt appreciation to Emily’s parents for extending their support to us. The work they do is important and so appreciated by all of us at Little Atlas. We are inspired to find more things to connect us to our families, and build bonds as closely knit as Emily’s and her family.
