‘The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just on the body, but the soul.’ (Alfred Austin)
In May, the K1C and K1P Champs at MindChamps PreSchool @ Yio Chu Kang started their journey on gardening. The Champs first learned about the germination process using the seeds gathered from the ‘Cai Xin’ plant.
A collaboration effort was seen between both classes, as they patiently, and carefully transplanted the seedlings to bigger pots after three weeks of germinating the ‘Cai Xin’ seeds.
Caring for the garden was no easy feat, as the vegetables required twice a day of watering. It was laborious, but yet the Champs persevere on, giving that much needed ‘drink’ for our vegetables!
Indeed planting plants is not as easy as it seems. The Champs were met with many initial challenges, such as our first batch of seeds being unable to sprout, the dryness of the soil due to the hot sun, and facing ‘attacks’ by the snails. It was after much trial and error that the Champs are able to harvest the first fruit of their labour successfully.
Here you can see the Champs finally harvesting and having a taste of their first harvest after forty days of hard work! It was indeed a fantastic introduction to the idea of gardening!
