Building and maintaining friendship calls for mutual respect, mutual care and consideration and demonstration of kindness to help whenever help is needed. We should not be taking each other for granted but be mindful to show gratitude and appreciation in words and actions. Such positive traits were taught in class through stories, role play and lively discussions.
The best opportunity came when the children celebrated Racial Harmony and International Friendship Day to learn more about respecting and appreciating their friends from diverse cultures. They played games, sang and danced together. They wrote notes of appreciation and exchanged gifts as a gesture of happy friendship.
Establishing friendship was further explored from a different dimension. In the event of an emergency accident that your friend encounters, is there something you can do to help and show your concern? The K2 children delved into the topic of caring for self and others in the aspect of handling accidents. With the resources supplied by the Red Cross, these children’s understanding about care and kindness was expanded.
In class, lessons were delivered to teach the K2’s about managing emergencies. Practical hands-on activities were carried out to give them the opportunity to learn how to handle minor injuries. They penned their ideas in writing to consolidate what they had learnt.
Though young, they can learn and acquire basic knowledge and skills to help their friends who need first aid, thereby showing that they care.
