Over the last four months since our SSDB party launch, our children have been learning the values of love, respect and kindness towards the environment and the people around them.
We started off with implementing the Environment Week. During this time, the children learnt the importance and ways of caring for the earth through an array of activities such as role play, storytelling, craftwork, music & movement, games as well as hands-on personal and practical experiences. Topics explored included littering, toilet etiquette, personal hygiene, recycling, saving water and energy conservation.
We invited parents and children to share their best home practices - EVERY DAY AN EARTH DAY. Children brought their contributions to class and did a show-and-tell of how they care for the environment with their parents. What a great encouragement to know that we are all doing our part to be kind to Earth. Below are some of the ways the children live out the various environmental values at home.
To further enrich children’s understanding about the environment, we conducted nature walk and gardening at our school’s compound as well as a visit to Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden to help children develop a sense of appreciation for nature and learn ways to preserve the natural environment such as less cutting but more planting of trees, using natural materials to create nature craft and keeping the gardens and parks clean. Coming into direct contact with the wide range of flora at the Garden also sparks children’s curiosity about the beauty of nature and instill in them the desire to want to care and protect it from pollution.
