Today marked the launch of our SSDB Project: Caring for the Environment!
Children and nature have always been connected. When being exposed to nature, they would admire the beauty of it just as we do; but more importantly, they would interact with its offerings. That would be the moment whereby they explore, absorb, and enjoy, which then naturally and seamlessly, enabled them to receive plenty of nature gifts that would have greatly enriched their growth and development. How priceless!
As much as the nature brings to us many wonderful experiences, it is only rightful for the children to be equipped with the knowledge and skills in order to better develop empathy and show respect for the environment.
With that said, we started off with a class discussion to share about the importance of keeping our environment clean etc and after which, we decided to zoom into the 3 types of pollution in which we would be placing more emphasis in in the coming days.
Apart from all the knowledge input, the children shared with great determination that, they wish to become care ambassadors of the environment via the formation of a pledge which says, ’I pledge to take care of our environment.’
To help the children keep in mind their environmental promise, we then got the pledge formulated out in the form of a craft work in which they had loads of fun in!
Through this whole introductory session, it deepened the children’s understanding regarding the theme as reflected from their responses and encounters. Also, it helped to broaden their creativity and knowledge about the innovative ways that they could adopt when it comes to utilising the materials around them which in this case, it would be how they showcased their love for the environment by recycling commonly seen resources such as bottle caps and leaves.
