We wanted to inculcate a love for the elderly in our little ones. Therefore, this year we collaborated with Ling Kwang Home on an Art Project which was conducted in 3 phases.
In Phase 1 : We discussed with our K2 children the importance of respecting the elderly, the needs of an elderly, ways to show love and appreciation to our elderly.
In Phase 2: Our children visited Ling Kwang Home (LKH) and met their new elderly friends. They sang familiar English and Chinese songs together, engaged each other in friendly conversation and played table games. After knowing one another, our children and the LKH residents got together to create a masterpiece! It was heart warming seeing the children take the initiative to assist the elderly who needed a little more help. Our children as well as the elderly tremendously enjoyed the time they had getting to know one another.
Phase 3 : Our K2 children were eagerly looking forward to meet the elderly for the second time. Some of our little ones welcomed them by giving them a hug. It was a special moment of reunion. The children and the elderly assembled their previously made handprints together. The seamless display of handprints captured a cohesion of our two worlds, and it was a figure of love and friendship between the young and the old.
As a part of our parent-child holiday project, each child made a special memento using recycled materials for each resident. This gesture was to thank the residents for their friendship.
Overall, the K2 children and the LKH Residents had a meaningful and enriching experience throughout the entire project.
Ling Kwang Home, we will see you again!
