In a bid to turn their pledge into actions, on 2nd August 2019, the children alongside with the teachers and 6 parent volunteers, conducted a park clean-up at East Coast Park.
They were briefed on safety and hygiene before they went around the park to pick up the litter. Latex gloves and 2 different bags – a normal trash bag and a black bag with a recycling logo were distributed to the individual groups. The children were taught to categorise the litter into recyclable and non-recyclable items by placing them in the correct bag.
The children worked in small groups and helped one another to pick up and throw the litter in the respective bags.
We collected a total of 17 trash bags of litter and three bags of recyclable items!
It was not easy to go around picking litter under the hot sun, but seeing the amount of trash we found, we all felt a great sense of achievement and are happy to play a small part in keeping Singapore clean!
We love you Singapore!!
