This year PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ Eunos Blk 616 embarked on a recycling project for the Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) initiative. The children were taught on the 3Rs, Reduce, Reuse & Recycle. All the teachers had actively engaged the children in activities that taught them the importance of recycling.
One of the introductory lesson was reading to the Nursery 2 children on a book titled, ‘Pick up the Park’. Following to that, children from all levels helped to pick up the litters around the school and sort according to recycled and non-recycled materials. They threw the recycled materials in the Blue Bin that is available nearby our school.
Teachers and children worked hard making bookmarks on 3Rs to increase awareness to the public. Our youngest group of students, Nursery 2 children were very proud in giving out the bookmarks to the public and had little chats on recycling with the residents too!As part of our partnership program with parents, they actively participated in our project by donating recycled materials such as kitchen towel roll, plastic bottles, ice-cream sticks and cardboards. We then used them to make National Daycrafts as part of our SSDB Project.
We collaborated with our National Day team to be part in their carnival on 8th of August 2017. A booth was set up to showcase the different ways we can use recycled materials in our art and craft activities, such as making National Day crafts. Some information in a form of pamphlet were given to parents on how they can help in recycling. There was also a corner where both parents and children worked together, making an interesting artwork using recycled paper and kitchen towel roll that they can bring home as one of the collectables.
Some parents wrote on a pledge board that they will bring their own recycled bag instead of using the plastic bags when shopping and to buy recycled paper, printing on both sides of the paper as a support to our project.Overall the project had a positive impact with our children and they can now confidently share the little ways to save the earth.
