Little Children Great Hearts - Food Fiesta 2017

We are very delighted to share with you our second year of Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) Project with our Little Children Great Hearts.

We wanted to do our share in helping to the less fortunate people in our society. The Centre Principal, Ms Ain, shared the vision to the teachers who in turn shared it with the children. The children were very enthusiastic about the idea as one of our school’s core value is ‘Caring.’ The thought of caring for others by sharing our love appealed to them.

14th July 2017 was an exciting day as the children began by preparing the light snacks for the visitors (their parents and the invited guest) with the teachers’ guidance.

Our Kindergarten 1 children with their Ondeh-Ondeh and Kindergarten 2 children making their Healthy Gummy Vitamin 😍

Our little ones from the Toddler and Infant classes did their bit as well 😍

Booths set up by the various classes with 3D props, coloured posters announcing the food fiesta were displayed at the entrances of the 2 bays, as well as the aroma of the food were all inviting to those who graced the occasion.

For this year, we changed the concept of the food that we sell. We focused on light-snacks that were simple, manageable and easy for the children to prepare.Parents also played an important role as we invited them to the centre to prepare and sell the food that they made.

At 3pm, our Nursery 2 to Kindergarten 2 children were all ready to man the booths and did a fine job at selling the snacks. They were very energetic and keep coaxing the parents and visitors to buy the snacks that they made. 😁

We also took this opportunity to showcase our Innovation Grant Project (IGP)- The Earth We Sha**re**. This project was done by the K1 and K2 children. They took up a booth for the sale of their healthy food- the Gummy Bears (which was a hit among the kids) and Yummy Soil Cups. They were able to explain to the parents how they carried out their project and how they made their Healthy and Yummy snacks.

Other than that, we set up a booth for our ‘Soap-Making Project’. This project is inspired by our Centre Principal that went to Bali for her Overseas Learning Experience Project. We contacted Royal Plaza on Scotts Hotel, and they generously donated used soap which we then recycled into making a new soap. These new soaps were then being donated to the Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics(HOME).

This project teaches children to be kind towards the earth and everyone around us, even to the migrants that work in Singapore.

The children explained and demonstrated the soap-making process to the parents and guests.

Everyone was happy at the end of the day because our objectives were met.The parents went all out to support the hard work of their children and teachers.

In all, we had a good collection of SGD1550 from the sale of the food. All proceeds raised will go to 52 beneficiaries from President’s Challenge.

The school was happy for the parents’ support; the parents were beaming with pride as they bought the food which was their children’s hardwork; and the children were happy at the amount raised for President’s Challenge. These Little Ones truly had Great Hearts!

Quoted by Ms Intan, Parent of Ezra from Kindergarten 2;

As a parent I feel that the SSDB project allows my son to have more confidence in meeting people, working as a team with his fellow classmates (in selling their food that they made at their booth). And I am glad that I was given the opportunity to contribute and do my bit to be a part of the EN629 team in helping the needy and less fortunate.

Last but not least, we are also very humbled to be featured on the Presidents Challenge facebook page. Thank you President’s Challenge 😘 #givefreelylivefully
