Other than having to show gratitude towards people such as frontline workers, families and caregivers, we also want the children to be aware that they can also express gratitude towards self, places and things. Thus, games were provided to reinforce the value ‘gratitude’. We chose to reinforce through games as we felt that it is a good and fun way to get children to speak up about what they are grateful for!
These are the games the kids played!
Gratitude Dice:
• Take turns to roll the dice and respond to the prompt shown.
• Making this dice gratitude craft together opens up the conversation!
Gratitude Game Using Skittles:
• Put the Gratitude Skittles Game instruction sheet and the fun size pack of Skittles in the middle or somewhere that everyone can see it. (We have prepared one packet of Skittles of each child to minimise avoid sharing food for precautionary measures.)
• Everyone will take a turn. Make sure the children take it out without looking.
• Say something that they are grateful according to the colour on the activity sheet that matches the colour of Skittle they got. For instance, if they got a red, they will say a person that they are grateful for.
• The children may eat it once they have answered the question.
Gratitude Slips:
• Pass a slip along to someone else to share your gratitude!
Gratitude may be a difficult concept for many kids to wrap their heads around. Therefore we invited the children to play these gratitude games. Through these activities, the children were able to identify what is important in our lives. They have also learnt to develop an appreciation for things, places, people and themselves, and spark a feeling of gratitude and thankfulness.
“The more grateful we are, the more beauty we see.”
We hope you’ll continue growing your gratitude in the weeks and months to come!
