British Council Pre-School has always been active in caring for our community. The biennial Art for Charity event is a project where we raise funds for children from disadvantaged families through the sale of our children’s artworks.
This year, we embarked on the Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) journey with our Art for Charity event. To embody SSDB’s theme on Learn from Our Past, Dream of Our Future, we decided to focus our project on Asian art and its influence on modern culture.
We started our project with a learning journey of the Art Trail at Ang Mo Kio Town Centre. Here, we viewed huge murals of Singapore icons and culture spread across walls and floors in the neighbourhood. The children discovered that art can be found anywhere and it can tell stories. For instance, through the murals, we learnt about kampung (village) life in Singapore and the original builders of Singapore, the Samsui women.
This learning journey had certainly inspire and given us ideas for our project. We can’t wait to brainstorm ideas and get started on our artworks!
