The children, teachers and principal of Kinderland Preschool @ Sunshine Place brainstormed on ideas to instill the values of kindness within the school compound and amongst the families. We decided to hold an event ‘Kindness to Grandparents Day’ on 24 May 2018. Invitations were then sent out for the grandparents to join us in school. The children eagerly performed some songs and dance for their grandparents.
The children were also delighted to have their very supportive grandparents’ participation in the K2 workout.
They gave their grandparents a massage and served tea to them at the end of the event.
The school also held a carnival on 19 July 2018, to raise funds to help the vulnerable seniors from the Lions Befrienders Singapore. There was a sale of food, drinks and children’s craft work, as well as game booths and a flea market.
K2 students looked after the various stalls and these little entrepreneurs were briefed on how to ‘run’ the stalls, with the help of the respective teachers.
On the Carnival Day, all the children were very excited especially because they knew that they were doing this for a good course. They proudly put on their orange hats from the ‘Start Small Dream Big’ movement and a tag that said ‘Kinderland Little Entrepreneur’.
With the parents’ support in coupon purchases, the families had a memorable day as they came together to raise funds in helping the less fortunate.
All thanks to our supportive parents and grandparents for both the occasions, the campaign to instill the value of kindness and offering financial help to the elderly has been very successful.
