In April 2019, PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ Tampines West (CC) Blk 151 launched our Start Small Dream Big Project ‘We Care’. Through this project, the Kindergarten 1 and 2 children showed their appreciation to the cleaners in the childcare centre and around the neighbourhood which we collaborated with Tampines Town Council and Tampines Kindness Movement.
Launch of our SSDB ‘We Care’ Project 2019 in April.
We started the project by inviting our school’s cleaners to the classroom where the children questioned them about their roles in the school.
Through the grant that we got from Tampines Kindness Movement, we bought cleaning tools like broom and dustpan, mop, cloths, black plastic bags, gloves and tongs. The children were introduced to the cleaning equipments and we had ‘No Cleaner Day’ where the children cleaned their own classrooms.
After experiencing what it was like to clean their classrooms, the children proceeded with helping the cleaners to clean the neighbourhood by picking up litters and rubbish.
The children had a chance to interview the cleaner.
As part of the Home School Partnership, the children designed futuristic cleaning tools with their parents and shared its function with their friends. These futuristic cleaning tools will help to ease the workload of our cleaners in the school and neighbourhood in the future.
The children designed posters to encourage the residents in the neighbourhood to keep the environment clean. They went house visits to give out the poster to the residents.
On 24 August 2019, we had our Start Small Dream Big closure where we invited our Guest of Honour, Miss Jeanne Cheng (CCC Chairperson), parents, cleaners from our school and Tampines Town Council. The children put up a special performance of Dikir Barat for the cleaners and we gave out Certificate of Appreciation and hampers to the cleaner. We also catered some refreshments for the cleaners to enjoy. The cleaners got to see the futuristic cleaning tools which will help them in the future.
The whole project made the children realised that it is not easy to be a cleaner. It is a tiring job hence the children felt that they have to help by keeping the environment clean and green and not to litter. A big Thank You to our cleaners!
