We, the Cherians from Cherie Hearts Kim Keat have decided to become Earth Savers by embarking on an adventure to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
To begin our journey by REDUCING, we had great pleasure in learning from the NEA officers the myriad ways to save electricity. From now on, we will remind our teachers and parents to set the air conditioners to 25 *C, as well as using energy- saving light bulbs and switching them off when not in use.
Our next stop was the NEWater Visitor Centre. We were educated on the various stages involved during the desalination process of seawater and ultimately, how NEWater is created. We had a blast learning about how we can save water in our daily lives. Moreover, we also found out that there are 780 million people in the world without access to clean, potable water.
Next on our list is RECYCLING, we brought recyclable items such as clothes, bottles, newspapers, magazines, plastic bags to school.
We placed these items into the nearest recycling bin. The children learned to identify which categories (paper, plastic, glass, metal) our recyclable materials belong to.
Lastly the children have decided to conduct a workshop to educate their parents on REUSING unwanted items to craft new creations. The children turned food cans into small baskets, old clothes into bags and empty drink bottles into pencil cases.
Before conducting the workshop, the children had memorised the steps to craft their creations, and diligently practiced weaving, pasting and cutting. They also created posters and decorated the school.
We had collected an amount from each registered parent for the workshop. The money collected will be donated to WINGS Counselling Centre.
