We had a collaborative visit to the seniors at Woodlands Care Home on 6th August 2024. We brought along dry food items that were donated generously by parents and children. These food items included Milo, biscuits, and instant noodles.
The seniors joined us for a morning of fun-filled activities. We performed the National Day Workout 2024 to the song titled ‘Not Alone’ by Benjamin Kheng. The seniors were strongly encouraged to join us (moving with hands actions) though most of them were on wheelchairs. It definitely did not deter their spirits. The children had as much fun performing for the seniors. We are inculcating them to be Confident and Creative Learners with a Caring Heart.
Children were seen engaging with the seniors with confidence. One of the games that we played were, ‘Can you identify these landmarks?”. Children showed the pictures of landmarks around Singapore and the seniors guessed its name and shared their life experience. One of the seniors mentioned that he used to live near the temple (Thian Hock Keng). Most of the seniors were able to name places like The Esplanade, Masjid Sultan, MBS (Marina Bay Sands), Sri Mariamman Temple and others.
From these pictures, we created puzzles. The seniors were working cooperatively with the children to fix the puzzles. It was a good session of interacting with them.
We also re-live the joy of playing games like five-stones, chapteh and spinning the top. The children showed graciousness and respect while taking turns with the seniors. These values are part of our Core Values.
