We continue to provide more learning opportunities to our children about the recycling process after our SSDB party launch. The K2 children were excited and engaged as they apply what they learnt about recycling for their community project titled “Hearts of Love, Hands of Love”.
With the understanding that found materials can be converted into something beautiful, useful or playful, the K2 children set their hands to creating percussion instruments and designing well wishing cards for their visit to the elderly at FYSAC located at Teck Whye. We also spent time telling stories and talking about environmental values, kindness and respect for people who might be different from us and this includes the elderly.
Children from the different levels did their small part too with their parents to donate healthier choice food items. The response was overwhelming. These items were then packed into carrier bags by the K2’s as gifts for the seniors and for FYSAC which provides free breakfast to them.
A group of K2 pupils then represented the Kindergarten to extend our hand of friendship and to bring cheer to the elderly. It was a memorable and meaningful experience for these children as they embarked on this worthy cause, knowing that though they are young, they can do their part to serve or help the community.
Off we go to FYSAC at Teck Whye
We were happy and proud to present one rhyming item, one Hokkien and one Chinese song to the “Ah Gong” and “Ah Ma”. They participated along by playing the percussion instruments we had made as a “give away” to them after our performance.
We then played games with them. Their smiles and open interactions with us made us realise that our time spent with them, though a short one and a half hours, is worth it all to bring some sunshine into their lives.
Before the end of the visit, we presented gifts to the “Ah Gong’s” and “Ah Ma’s” and could hear them respond with words “Gan En” which means heartfelt gratitude. Now in return we learn a bit more about being thankful to the good we receive from others.
