29th June 2018
We invited the elderly and pioneers from FaithActs to join us in our centre for Hari Raya Celebration.
The children perform a song and dance for the occasion and the elderly were fascinated to see the children dance gracefully. The elders motivated the children by clapping while the latter sing and dance.
After the performance the children and the elderly made a 2D ketupat weaving. It was a challenge for the elderly initially but the children gave a helping hand and both work together to weave the ketupat.
What is Hari Raya if there is no food. The elderly were served with lontong (rice cake) with lemak lodeh (coconut gravy with mixture of vegetable) and sambal telur (egg chilli). While the elders queue up to take their food, the children served Chinese tea for the elders.
We also serve Hari Raya cookies at every table. Children got the elders to try and eat the traditional ‘kueh tat’ and modern cookies. At the end of the day we took a group photo.
The elders were happy to see our little toddlers too in another class and we bid farewell.
Look out for our issue on Racial Harmony Day coming soon on 17th July 2018.
