Marking the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan is the festival of Eid also known in Singapore as Hari Raya Aidilfitri or Hari Raya Puasa. Ramadan is a period of sober repentance for Muslims, with approximately 30 days of dawn-to-dusk fasting. On 14th June 2019, Skool4Kidz @Sengkang Riverside Campus held a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration to expose the children to the tradition and for them to understand what it meant for those who observed this custom. They participated in the celebration by putting on traditional costumes and feasting on the different Hari Raya goodies that were usually eaten during the festival.
Children posed for photos and feast on the traditional Malay Kuih that they brought from home. Sweet goodies such as Kuih Bahulu, Pineapple Tart, Kek Lapis and many more. The older children (Preppy Learners, Knowledge Builders and Ready Skoolers) played traditional Malay games such as Five Stones (Batu Seremban), Pick Up Sticks and Chapteh.
The Tiny Tots and Fun Learners did craft activities. They created hanging ornaments using the Islamic Symbols such as the crescent and the stars which were decorated in their respective classes.
“Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all! To be present with your loved ones during this joyous occasion is the greatest gift of all. May you enjoy this festive season with your families have a happy holiday!
