Children of Skool4kidz @Sengkang Riverside Park had an exciting Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration in school on the Friday. 28th April 2023. They learnt the significance of celebrating Hari Raya and the importance of celebrating the different celebrations in Singapore as Singapore is a multi racial country. Teachers shared information regarding the celebration through Powerpoint slides and the children were engaged in different activities such as dancing, craft work and sharing of Hari Raya snacks with their friends. Children also donned their traditional costumes and had a mini fashion runway showcasing their outfits.
Hari Raya Aidilfitri signifies the end of Ramadan which is the Islamic holy month. Ramadan is a period of sober repentance for Muslims which engage in acts of compassion and fast from dawn to dusk for approximately 30 days. On Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Muslims in Singapore end their time of fasting with a joyous celebration of forgiveness, fellowship and food. They donned their baju kurung, visited their relatives’ houses and seek forgiveness from one another.
The children from N2 to K2 were engaged in a variety of crafts on this special day! Our N2 friends painted and decorated their very own Raya packets during the parent involvement. Our K1s weaved their artworks to create the ketupat.
Our friends in K2 had made honey cornflakes which is one of the ‘kuehs’ or snacks which our Malay friends would have in their house during Hari Raya.
Our N2 friends and parents were invited to Skool4kidz to celebrate Hari Raya together! They visited booths where they explored the Malay culture such as the traditional clothes, making of the green packets and trying out the kuehs.
May the spirit of Hari Raya fill your heart with love and compassion for all. Selamat Hari Raya!
