“A grandparent is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher, and a little bit best friend. – unknown’
We can’t agree more with this statement. We see that in our students, who are blessed to have grandparents being involved in caring for them throughout their growing years.
It is a common sight to see grandparents sending the children in the morning or fetching them from school. Often, we see grandparents walking the children to school, bringing their favourite scooter for a scoot or taking them to the playground after school.
Such unconditional love and care would easily be taken for granted, hence for this year’s SSDB, we aim to show our appreciation for the grandparents in our school. The children folded origami heart and used it to make a card for their grandma and grandpa. They talked about how their grandparents have helped or played with them. The older children even wrote their appreciation and expressed their thanks and love in the message.
The grandparents were delighted to receive the card when their grandchildren presented to them during pick-up. Such simple gesture aims to encourage children to show appreciation and respect for the elder extended family members. For those whose grandparents do not stay with them, they shared about the times they visited their grandma or grandpa and had delicious meal together.
Through this, we hope to encourage our children to constantly make effort to include and be involved with their grandparents or elder family members, near of far.
Towards the end of our SSDB journey, the children will prepare a special song and performance dedicating it to their grandparents, granduncles/aunts and their elder extended family members.
Do stay tune!
