It is LoveShine Montessori Schoolhouse’s third running year in participating in the Start Small Dream Big project. In lieu with the school’s core values and the ongoing pandemic, our title for this year is “Giving Thanks to Our Community Heroes.” Through this project, we aim to help our children recognise the efforts that our essential workers have been contributing to help the community in this time of uncertainty. In addition, we also wish for our children to practise appreciation and empathy.
We launched our project on 13 July, Monday. We started the presentation by reading a picture book called “COVID-19 for Kids” by Catherine Cheung and Elvin Too. After the book, we explained to our K1s and K2s about the current situation in Singapore, and discussed about how the essential workers have helped to meet and maintain the needs of Singaporeans. Next, we pledged to give our utmost appreciation as each child exhibited their pledge on a handicraft that was to be displayed in our school’s noticeboard. Lastly, we took the opportunity to remind and emphasise the importance of personal hygiene and simple precautions to take to keep ourselves and people around us safe.
Moving forward in our SSDB project, we will be involving parents of our children to participate in the activities along with us!
