Gift Packs for our Community to raise awareness towards Zero Waste

On the last week of August, Kindergarten One and Two children were passionate to prepare forty gift packs for the community. Each gift pack consists of sanitizer and masks. This was part of our SSDB project on Zero Waste – to foster an understanding in children about zero waste and to nurture character values such as kindness, compassion, caring for the environment and the spirit of giving through the children’s active participation and interactions in the project with community partners like our residents from Bishan.

On 24 August, children began by creating their paper bags with attractive designs like sea creatures, nature, playground, mask, Singapore flag and school (YWCA). Next, children wrote slogans on recycled coloured papers about Zero Waste. There are: “Forgo the plastic bags and use reusable bags”, “Save paper, Save the trees, Save the earth!”, “Don’t waste food”, “We can’t change the past but we can change the future, always recycle!” “Good-bye Plastic bags” and more. These slogans were then attached to each sanitizer. When it’s completed, children packed them all into their inventive paper bags, ready to be distributed to public.

On 3 September, Centre Leader together with teachers from YWCA (Bishan) distributed the gift packs to the residents of Bishan, to raise awareness and share methods to reduce waste with the community highlighting that these gift packs were specially designed and packed by our YWCA (BISHAN) Kindergarten One and Two children.
