After planting the seeds during the launch party, teachers continued to instil a sense of responsibility in the children by bringing them to the garden to take care of the plants. In the process, we found out that the water spinach (kang kong) was the easiest to grow. However, some of them turned yellowish very quickly. So we invited Mr. Frankie, a volunteer from NParks, to take a look at our garden to see how we can do better.
He also shared that it was too hot for the plants at the garden. So, he helped us to set up a net as a shield for the vegetables__.
Thereafter, we removed all the first batch of water spinach and planted new seeds. This time round, we added more fertiliser and watered the vegetables twice a day.
Week 2
Week 4
After 4 weeks, our vegetables were ready for harvest! Children harvested the water spinach and the teachers helped them pack a small portion for each child to bring home.
Many of them showed their appreciation for our planting efforts by whipping up mouth-watering dishes with our water spinach at home.
It’s cooking time with Daddy and Mummy!
