Food Wastage

Earlier this year, the preschool implemented 2 initiatives in line with the theme on Sustainability. A concept that we have introduced since the start of the year.

The first initiative is to raise awareness on food wastage. In the last decade, Singapore has seen a 50% increase of food wastage and the rate is continuously rising! We invited The Food Bank Singapore to conduct a talk with the Nursery 2 to K2 children on the problem of food wastage and how to manage it.

Subsequently, we placed a Food Bank Deposit in the preschool where families and children could donate their unused food supplies. These food supplies were then collected and allocated to the needy through a network of member beneficiaries such as family service centres, various types of homes, soup kitchens, and other VWOs.

Once the collection period ended, the K2 children took a trip to the Food Bank to help sort the food items in their respective categories. The children reflected on their daily dining practices and demonstrated their understanding on Sustainability through their actions in reducing food wastage.
