On 18th May our Champs continued their SSDB journey to becoming healthy food ambassadors!
We celebrated the annual Food Revolution Day at MindChamps Upper Thomson. The event aims to promote healthy eating and the food revolution is headed by Jamie Oliver in UK and we are proud to be part of this global movement.
Together with the help our friends at SATs Food and our friendly dietician, Wei Jie, Champs had loads of fun learning about healthy eating.
Champs were introduced to the ‘Healthy Eating Plate’ as well as the rainbow colours in our Food. Champs learnt about the portion on our healthy plate - half a plate of fruits and vegetables, quarter of a plate of lean meat and other protein and quarter of a plate of whole meal rice, noodles or bread. We learnt about the ‘rainbow colours’ in our food and how different food items represent a colour - red, yellow orange, white, green and blue.
After learning about food portions and colours in our food, Champs got into action making ‘Rainbow Rice Bowl’!
Champs put together a rice bowl - 3 spoonfuls of different types of vegetables, 2 spoonfuls of different lean meat and other protein like kidney beans or chick peas and 1 spoonful of sauce. To create the ‘rainbow’, Champs shook their covered rice bowls to mix the ingredients together.
It’s time to share their knowledge and Champs became healthy food ambassadors by going around the school to teach our younger Champs how to make their own ‘Rainbow Rice Bowl’!
Our K1 and K2 Champs took turns demonstrating and educating younger Champs about making their rice bowl. At the end of our event we took home our rainbow rice bowls as souvenirs.
Stay tuned for more updates on our journey as healthy food ambassadors!
