Our children created their own salads recipe booklets and in this project our children learnt the importance of eating fruits and vegetables and the problem of food wastage in Singapore. While sharing with the children on the problem of food wastage in a news article, our k1 and K2 children were sad that some Singaporeans left food on the table while eating out and the food had to be thrown away. Our children then brainstormed how they could do their part to prevent food wastage. They all made a pledge to finish all the food on their plates and only take what they could eat.
In making the recipe booklets, our children created food art of fruits and vegetables. They were encouraged to take fruits and vegetables that they like and they also had to finish their food to prevent wasting of food.
As children carefully picked slices of fruits to put in their plates, they had interesting ideas of what images or designs they would like to create on their plates. They had wonderful ideas and thought of making dinosaurs out of slices of bananas. Some of them made butterflies out of apples and sea creatures using different kinds of fruit of their choices.
While doing this activity, they reminded each other to take only fruits or vegetables that they would like to eat and they had to finish all the fruits on their plates before they could create another food art.
