Our K1 & K2 children were engaged in a fund raising event for our SSDB project this year, raising funds for the needy families at Fernvale Gardens School. We wanted to ‘Find-A-Need-and-Meet-It’ and set a target to raise $1000.00 through a mini carnival. We collected pre-loved items from the parents who donated generously. The children made posters, created props for the games, sort, clean and wipe the items for sale. We even collaborated with the nearby food court to paste our posters as well as give out leaflets to create awareness.
On the day of the carnival, all hands were on deck and the carnival was a success whereby we raised a total of $1221.20! We thank our wonderful parents and hardworking children for their fervent support and effort that enabled us to surpass our target.
To allow our children to connect their experiences, we arranged two separate ‘Get-To-Know-You’ sessions for each of our K1 and K2 classes to interact with the Fernvale Gardens School (FGS) students. We had a time of dance and games to know one another better. Thereafter, our children presented the cheque of their labour as well as a poster showing the process of preparing for the fund raising event. Through this experience, we learn that age is not a barrier to making a difference in the lives of others and that to be able to give, regardless of time or money, is truly a blessing.
