In line with the SSDB project theme this year, our K2s have come up with various activities for the year which can boost and strengthen their bond with their family and the community.
Our little ones were all excited when we told them they would be involved in the president challenge for the 3rd year in a row. They agreed with the SSDB theme of the year and are aware of the importance of love for family and community in the world they share.
Our school officially launched our theme for this year by showing love and care towards our friends and our chosen family in life on international friendship day. To make it more exciting and inclusive, our K2s drew lots and created a special surprise handmade bracelet for the friend they got in the chit they picked. They used recycled materials to make those pretty bracelets as they did not forget to show their love and care for the environment in this journey. Children were very mindful of their peers’ colour and design preferences when they created the bracelets for them. Upon creation, the children were all excited when they exchanged their bracelets with their peers. To reward their hard work, they had a mini Oreo friendship party after that too.
After the launching party, we had a few story reading sessions in the following weeks where children learned more about the four different values of the SSDB theme this year. During the session, they also brainstormed why the values are important and how to apply them in daily life.
In our second part of the project, we extended our care and love toward the community. We did not forget to join forces with our family on this journey. Our little ones sat with their parents to decide and donate their unused books, stationaries and toys for a charity sale. Upon done, we collated, labelled the items with minimal price and arranged them outside the school for other parents and children to purchase. All our kids and parents cooperated and contributed throughout the journey as they were aware that the money from the sale would be donated to the “community chest”, our SSDB beneficiary for this year. Some parents went one step ahead by helping the children arrange the items outside the school before the sale. This fun and meaningful experience made the little ones work together as a team with their family, friends and teacher for a good cause. It also made them realise the importance of saving the planet by reusing and donating unused items.
In the third part of the project, we decided to show our love and care toward our family. Children coloured the photo frame templates and drew pretty drawings about their family on a scratch pad which they inserted inside the photo frame after. Some children wrote cute little messages to show their gratitude for their families. Upon done, children returned their work and gave it to their parents and grandparents as a token of love and appreciation.
Our project did not end there. We have planned another activity to close our project, which will be carried out in the upcoming weeks.
