Our school, Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Preschool have raised fund for Straits Times School Pocket Money (ST-pocket money) for the past two years since we participated in the ‘Start Small Dream Big’ project. This year we celebrated our 5th anniversary cum Dumpling Festival with our children and their family members. This was our first Family Carnival. We organised this Carnival to raise fund for ST-pocket money on 19th May 2018.
The Carnival started with two Chinese musical drum items: feng yang hua gu (凤阳花鼓) and nan er dang zi qiang (男儿当自强). Our K1 and K2 children preformed drum and wushu to welcome parents, grandparents, alumni and guests.
The younger children from N1 and N2 welcomed our guests with their smiles and Hokkien song - rou zong ge (肉粽歌). We celebrated the Dumpling Festival in advance. Our children and parents made dumplings for a good cause.
The Carnival began when the compare hit the gong (锣).
Our K1 and K2 children helped out at various games and food stalls. They discharged their duties eagerly and happily. They collected the coupons from participants, helped to pick up arrows, ping pong and other tools for the game stalls. Those deployed at the food stalls were busy serving food to their customers.
In the midst of the Carnival, we saw children, parents, grandparents and alumni enjoying the day in the event.
Everything ended smoothly with the help from children, parents, colleagues and volunteers! The amount collected for ST Pocket Money Fund is $8,000.00. We would like to thank our parents, alumnus and sponsors for their generous support.
