‘Compassion’, ‘Appreciation’, ‘Kindness’ and ‘Empathy’…
Dear Parents,
I am pleased to share with you that this is our 4th year in embarking on the project titled “Start Small Dream Big” since it first stated in 2015. We are privileged to be able to continue with this nation-wide initiative that has been creating platforms for our pre-schoolers to contribute to the community. Below are the summary of the SSDB project done:
In 2015, the children and teachers hosted the event “The Gift of Light” whereby children and parents created mini models that could be lighted up; using the knowledge learnt and materials from The Electric Corner project. 6 mini models were then presented to the less fortunate children from Jamiyah’s Children Home during their play date, hosted by the centre.
In 2016, we embarked on a project titled “Tiny Hands, Great Heart”. The teachers and children raised funds through selling of the Art Works in their “SSDB Restaurant @ PCF942” and had donation-in-kind from all the parents in the centre. We had successfully purchased, packed and delivered 11 big bags of food items that costs about $50 each to 11 needy families in Tampines.
In 2017, the children advocated for conservation and recycling. We started from scratch- from planning, to creating, to executing; and it was all worth it! We had Minister Mr Masagos to grace the fun-filled carnival; in total of 6 game booths and 3 activity stations and performance by the K1-K2 children. It was truly a success and all the children, parents and teachers enjoyed every moment of it.
Learning happens not only in classrooms; not only through books and prints. Meaningful and valuable learning experiences such as the above happened because the teachers and children dare to dream big and stepped out from their comfort zone; out from a box. Undeniably, it is essential to harness holistic and appropriate learning which also inculcate positive attitude and values.
The teachers and I believe that the children are competent individuals and could do much more in a group when platforms are created and opportunities are expanded. Together with supportive community partners, we hope to raise responsible social beings who will make a great impact as a model citizen.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you, the parents, for continuously being supportive in your child’s early years learning. It is with your support that we could make the impossible to I-M-possible. They are never too small to dream big. And when they do, they contribute big
