At PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ Sengkang Central Block 208 (CC), we hope to extend the learning of our children beyond the four walls of the classroom. Hence, our K1 children are participating in this year’s SSDB project in collaboration with the Society of the Physically Disabled (SPD). They will learn about values like compassion and empathy, their roles in an inclusive society and how a little help can go a long way.
In view of the current COVID-19 situation, the children were not able to do visitations to any of the elderly homes that we had previously planned. Instead, we linked up with SPD to help the children understand more about people with disabilities. Mr Calvin from SPD shared with the children a story titled “The Different Blob” to help children understand that everyone can be different. He also introduced some life stories of the clients of SPD. After the sharing session, the children asked questions about the people with disabilities and wanted to do something more for them. Through their discussions with their teacher, the children came up with a list of ideas on what they felt they could do to show the clients of SPD that there are people who still cares for them.
