We love listening to stories about how Becky Bunny and her brothers spend wonderful bonding time with their grandparents in school. What a real thrill for us when Nan Pat - our friend’s Grandma, came to visit us one Friday morning to share her interesting story about how children celebrate birthdays in yesteryears! She showed us some vintage children’s clothes beautifully hand sewn using a sewing machine (we actually got a hands-on experience touching and trying it … Cool huh?) and birthday photos of our friend’s daddy and aunty with their extended families and friends. We were very surprised to learn that children of yesteryears don’t go to theme parks to celebrate their birthdays or have birthday celebrations in school! Birthday celebrations in those days are just simple family gatherings of relatives and close friends. What more … there’re no Pizza Hut, KFC or McDonald’s Happy Meals for birthday treats! The party food are all home-cooked or baked and seasoned with lots of love from mommy and aunties. Nat Pat also shared with us some birthday games played during the early days such as Passing the Parcel, Pin the Donkey’s Tail, Blind Man Bluff, etc.
Thank you, Nan Pat, for giving us such a wonderful bonding time with you and learning about our parents’ childhood fun days…how we wish we can travel back to the yesteryears and enjoy all these simple joys in life!
