On 26 June 2020, we formally launched on our SSDB Project by inviting our K 1 and K2 children and parents to collaborate with us in setting up an “Edible Vertical Garden”.
Parents planted a seed at home with their child (seeds of herb, vegetable, or fruit) and bring it to school once the plant has sprouted.
The plants are placed at the vertical garden located behind our school. Children, staff and parents work together to care for the plants at the garden. The children also keep a weekly record of their observations on the plants growth.
We will be harvesting the ‘fruits of our labour’, pack them nicely into little packages and distribute them to the residents around our school as a way to give back to our community. We will also use some of the harvested produce from our edible vertical garden to create fresh and healthy dishes in school and consume them. This is to further reinforce the practice of eating healthy and fresh ingredients.
In our next SSDB Story, we will update you on how the children have been regularly taking care of the plants in the vertical garden and record their observations in their “Growth Diary”.
