'Doing Good Together: Thoughtful Helping Hands'

In line with the SSDB theme this year, we are collaborating with Jurong West Nursing Home on a project ‘Doing Good Together: Thoughtful Helping Hands’. It is hoped that our young children are given opportunities to apply skills/knowledge that they have learned and put to daily life experience.

During PCF Charity Week ‘2024 ‘Doing Good’, children get to know and understand the meaning of ‘Kindness’ and ‘Charity’ and discover various ways of ‘Doing Good’ and showing care and concern for the community. They learn how Sharity the Elephant cares for the elderly and helps the character hungry Grandma in the book ‘Under the Tembusu’.

Passing on the message: Sharing is Caring, Doing Charity comes from my heart!

In support of our project, a Donation Drive was organised. Everyone at school played a part: making appreciation cards, collecting and packing of donated items into decorated bags. Items of necessities collected were delivered to Jurong West Nursing Home on 25/7/2024.

K1 Children suggested what they wished to contribute and were extremely excited to share what they have brought, with generous support from parents.

Parents, children and teachers were all eager and looked forward to meet up with the residents on 21/8/2024!

It was a joyful moment for all to bond together to engage in conversation and working on a craft activity!

With special thoughts of the residents in mind, we worked together to upcycle biscuit boxes into personalised storage boxes for each participating resident to store his/her personal things.

To wrap up the event, children put up a performance of songs for the residents to appreciate them for the wonderful time spent together.

All of us have an enriching experience with the residents at Jurong West Nursing Home and we hope that our children get to share with their family to participate in volunteering work to reach out to people in the community. Likewise, we hope that the residents have good memories having us around!
